Overall a rather mild month, but this hid some large variations. In general the temperatures rose steadily throughout the month. The month started very cold with some sharp frosts, the lowest being -6.2C on the 2nd and a freezing day with a max of -1.1C on the 4th, though there was abundant sunshine for the most part. There was snow cover (though no snowfall) from the 1st to the 6th. From the 7th to the 24th it gradualy became milder with some rain, the highest min of 7.4C being recorded on the 17th. From the 25th until the end of the month it became even milder and with rather more rain, though some sleet was observed on the 25th, along with the only air frost ouside the first week.The highest max of 12.3C was recorded on the 27th and 6 days recorded temps in double figures. Gales were observed on the 28th and 31st, though they were not severe.
